Attendance Policy

It is the position of Cumorah Academy that if a student is absent, no learning can take place. The educational experiences lost during an absence are irretrievable as well as the interaction in the classroom setting. Absences can seldom be duplicated through makeup work. The primary aim of attendance enforcement is to increase student achievement through improved attendance.

LIMITATION OF ABSENCES:
Individual student absences should be limited to a maximum of 12 absences per school year. Students who exceed 12 absences will be examined on a individual basis to determine if the student requires attendance probation. Students who exceed 20 absences during the school year may be retained in the current grade.

NOTIFICATION OF ABSENCES:
A parent or guardian must notify the school of any absences by phone or in writing. For your convenience, Absence Notification forms may be obtained in the school office.

PRE-ARRANGED ABSENCES:
A Pre-arranged Absence Request form may be obtained in the school office and must be completed and returned to the office at least two weeks prior to the requested absence for approval when missing 2 or more days of school. A two week time period allows sufficient time for teachers to arrange for a students homework, which the student will be required to submit upon return to school.

MAKE-UP WORK:
After an absence, the student and/or parent is responsible to contact the teacher(s) to obtain appropriate makeup work. Time allotted for completion of missed work is to be determined by the teacher(s).

TARDINESS:
Student tardiness is a disruption to the educational atmosphere of our school. Tardiness interferes with time to teach and infringes on the educational rights of other students.

A student is to be marked tardy who is not physically present in the classroom at the start of the instructional day. Tardy students must obtain a pass from the school office before reporting to their classroom. Three (3) tardies will be counted as an absence.
